Updates May 2009
Ordinance 37 Lawsuit Challenge I read in the local Deming newspaper that the challenge of ordinance #37 is now over. The article goes on to state that even though there was no change to the ordinance and that it stands the way it was written, the order clarifies how two half-acre lots that are contiguous maybe be developed with one home on each 1/2 acre if the property owners enter into a binding agreement to share one advanced liquid waste disposal system and one well for the two lots. An individual owning an entire one acre may also develop as long as the proper procedures are followed which includes putting in a particular septic system.
$11.4 Stimulus Money Heads To Los Lunas Airport The Albuquerque Journal named some of the projects the federal stimulus program will fund and on that list was $11.4 million to rebuild the longest runway at Las Cruces International Airport which is about 45 minutes east of Deming, New Mexico!
Sunset Magazine May 2009 named the City Of Rocks State Park as one of their favorite places to pitch a tent in their 50 Best Campgrounds! Located in the Mimbres Valley of the Chihuahuan desert it is about 30 miles northwest of the town of Deming. The park is a geologic monument formed by large sculptured rock columns rising as high as 40 feet and are separated by paths or lanes resembling city streets. Established in 1952, more than 50,000 people visit the park each year. So I am putting on my list of things to see next time I am in Deming! : )
Photo Update: September 2007
It sure was a beautiful time to visit Deming with all of the green on the Florida Mountains and pretty crops!

First time I have seen pumpkins in Luna!
The Luna County Courthouse with her new makeover!
These were taken when we headed north out of Lordsburg to Reserve, a pretty little town up in the mountains - what a gorgeous drive!

Spring 2007
We made a quick visit to the Deming area in early spring. What a show of the spring flowers blooming in the warm sunshine. I realize that they are probably weeds but what a beautiful show! The locals were out enjoying the afternoon near the majestic Florida Mountains! I loved the cute little one that was begging me to take his picture!

Here is an interesting link to one of our customers who bought a beautiful big chunk of land from us on the side of the Florida Mountains. He has kept a pictorial of his solar home that he is building. I had a chance to view it when I stopped by - really interesting and very pretty! There is a big stone in the middle of the home that they built around that is used for heating and cooling! He goes by Carl the Rock Artist and you will see his artistry in his pictorial as well - check out page 4! You can view the pictures at the following link: Carl the Rock Artist.
I had a chance to visit Luna County in early March, 2006 and what a beautiful visit it was! We saw several green crops starting to grow, a new subdivision with very nice southwestern style homes being built a few miles southeast of Deming, beautiful spring flowers, the Courthouse being renovated, some cool machinery, and a fabulous sunset! The last four pictures are of the small town of Columbus near Mexico.

Luna County Courthouse was getting a makeover.

These photos are in the town of Columbus just above the border of Mexico

These ten pictures below were taken in September 2002 on my very first adventure to buy land! I attended the Luna Countys tax sale and visited Rockhound State Park and the Sunshine Valley Ranchettes after the sale. It was the first time I had really visited the desert and I was shocked at how different it was from Washington State! I thought the Florida Mountains were beautiful and was surprised to see cows walking about on the open range! I caught the bug and now love my trips to the desert!

Additional County Information: Luna County adopted new ordinances in December of 2006. Click here for a copy of this ordinance .
Additional State Information: New Mexico's new liquid waste regulations went into effect in September of 2005. These regulations will provide the highest quality to the environment and was greatly needed with the drought situations over the years. Smile4u Inc greatly encourages you to research the new regulations to understand what you will be allowed to do with your property. We have not researched the ground to depth water in any of the areas we sell land in. If the property does not meet the new standards for conventional septic systems, other ideas to research are: installing complete retention systems such as holding tanks, waiting till public utilities are provided in the street, or to purchase an adjoining property.
The new regulations for undeveloped lots platted before 02-01-1990 require at least 3/4 of an acre for a conventional septic system and 3/4 of an acre in areas with depth to ground water 100 feet or less. There are sunset provisions that allow a 3-5 year period for you to install using the old guidelines. After the sunset period is over you will need to comply with the new regulations. If you would like to see a copy of the new regulations that we obtained from the State please click here. We also have information we can email you if you would like to research retentions systems. We actually came across a subdivision in Kansas a few years ago that had several hundred properties that all were required to use holding tanks so don't be afraid to think outside the box! |
