In September of 2007 we spent a couple of days exploring the area, looking at the growth and even took a couple of hours to attend the New Mexico State Fair in Albuquerque! Boy was that a hot day!

This was the first time I have ever seen people walking around eating turkey drumsticks like cavemen! How fun! This is also where the Downs at Albuquerque is currently located. They are trying to get approval to move it east to Moriarty.

A new subdivision is being built about ten miles west of Mountainair which is about 25 miles east of the Rio Grande Estates along highway 60. They are 40 acre tracts with power/well starting $139,000.

The next set of pictures was taken in Valley de Manana subdivision southwest of Belen. It is a gorgeous area with beautiful views of Ladron Peak.

In October 2007 we explored the Rio Grande Estates and the Sevillita National Wildlife Refuge which sits just to the south of this subdivision.

The beautiful fall colors along the bosque!

In early May 2007 we drove east out of Arizona on highway 60 through Magdalena and into Socorro. What a beautiful time of year for a drive as we explored the mountains, Magdalena and surrounding areas of Socorro and Belen! The VLA sits to the west of Magdalena and is quite an interesting sight to see. Makes you wonder if there are others out there!

Magdalena is a cute small town with a population of about 1100. We drove north out of Magdalena through the Bear Mountains in the Cibola National Forest to explore a subdivision called Valley de Manana. It took us past the old ghost town of Riley. The flowers were blooming everywhere! It's hard to believe this is the desert but then again they do call New Mexico the Land of Enchantment! There were plenty of locals out enjoying the warm afternoon. I loved the rabbit, family of antelope and the young calf who stopped and posed for me! My job doesn't get any better than this!

The bosque in Socorro along the Rio Grande was such a plush green color this time of year making the red in the mountains come to life as well! It is amazing to see how much this small town has grown since I went to my first tax sale here in 2002! Many new major businesses now line the streets of downtown Socorro! There is also a hospital at the end of town.

Welcome to Socorro County, New Mexico

Socorro County is centrally located in the State of New. It is bordered to the north by Valencia County and the city of Belen sits just to the north of the county line. The county seat is the the city of Socorro which is located further south along the Rio Grande River, an hour south of Albuquerque and two hours north of Las Cruces. Click here for a map showing where Socorro is located along the Interstate south of Albuquerque and Belen.  It is a beautiful place with its plush green scapes along the Bosque and the forested Magdelena Mountains.

It is home to the National Radio Astromony Observatory and New Mexico Tech. Socorro County has been experiencing moderate growth with the expansion of the observatory and the college and the opening of Wal-Mart and other retailers. I recently drove through the town of Socorro and couldn't believe the number of retailers that have joined this community making for a busy downtown!

There has been quite a bit of growth to the north of this county in the Belen and Los Lunas areas and the location of these communities from Albuquerque makes it inevitable. Socorro County sits just to the south of the town of Belen and we have seen the price of lands that we are selling in this area greatly increasing over the past few years. There are several housing projects going on in these areas and you can see them just by driving through the area. There is an expansion at the Alexander Airport.  It will be the site of the LoPresti Speed Merchants new recreational aircraft. The 100,000 square foot plant has plans to start construction this year and will employ 300 mostly local residents! Merillat Industries, a national cabinet producer is moving all West Region manufacturing activities to its plant in Los Lunas. It currently has 230 employees at its plant in Los Lunas with an additional 50-100 new jobs by summer 2007. They project employment will reach 700 people! In February 2007 the New Mexico Rail Runner pulled into the Belen station. This is a commuter rail covering a 50 mile stretch from Albuquerque through Los Lunas and down to Belen.
