Big grin - for a moment in time she is mine and I've been there 3 times now in the past year! How fun thinking that just on the other side of the Funeral Mountains is Death Valley. PROPERTY INFORMATION

9.75 acre lot for sale in Amargosa Valley, NV about 105 miles NW of Las Vegas by Pahrump and Beatty. It adjoins Death Valley National Park and California. The Big Dune Rec Area can be seen from the property towering 500 feet - come play with your ATV's! There's a paved road to the property with power along it!

All of the photos were taken of the property and the surrounding views in May of 2021. Diablo Drive is a paved road along the east side of the property that had power runni g along it on the same side as the property. It sits 7/10 of a mile south of Ranch Road, the main drag thru this part of the valley.

Looking north on Diablo Drive.

Looking south on Diablo Drive

The adjoining neighbor to the south.

The adjoining neighbor to the north taken in 2021 & 2023.

The property is mostly flat and open with some scattered vegetation and small rock pebble.

There is an intermittent stream thru the property which I walked thru - it's not much of a stream but you can see where it flows when it rains heavy.

Creosote bush.

There are gorgeous views of the Funeral Mountains which runs from the NW to the SW! They lie across the State line in California with about a 15 foot drop at the end across the west side of the property.  On the other side of them is Death Valley. My oh my are her colors marvelous and she is rugged and rocky!

To the NW are rich orangish colored hues in her hillsides!

I didn't notice the mountains in the far distance to the NW but when I stopped in April 2023 they had snow on them! I am reminded that we received an abundance of water this year and it really hasn't started to melt yet - exciting!

From the NE to the SE across the other side of the valley is Yucca Mountain and the Nellis Air Force Range.

They had a bit of snow in their peeks as well in April 2023!

A peek at the Big Dune which reaches up to 500 feet!

Looking north on Diablo Drive which has power running along it. I met the neighbor who lives across the street to the SE - lovely gentleman who was on his way to town in Pahrump to do some grocery shopping.

Big Dune formation and the surrounding land is administered by the BLM and is open to motorized and non-motorized recreational uses. It's accessible from Valley View Road, about 2.5 miles S of U.S. 95. It is one of the worlds very few “singing” sand dunes.

Also sometimes called “booming” dunes, this type of dune is very rare. Only about 41 sand dunes in the world possess the unique ability to “sing”. The singing results from a reverberation that occurs when the sand is disturbed. The reverberation can produce a light hum that is audible to the human ear.

The first time I heard about the dunes was in 2013 from this man who let me jump in his cool ride!

I picked this up at the tax foreclosure sale. I contacted the States Division of Water Resources and was told that you do have the right to drill a domestic well on the property. The valley is very abundant when water is added and there are pretty homes along the road!

The neighbors yard is coming along nicely - its getting hard to see that back building already!

I have been out here 3 times now and each time stopped along the Amargosa Valley Farm Road to snap photos of the alfalfa field! She sure grows pretty fast! So pretty - who would think this was the desert! I also saw a hemp farm sign along this road and read there is cultivation allowed in this valley. When I stopped by the little store out here I asked the gal what people mostly did for work in the area and she commented about the farms and mining. You can see a few of the mines along Highway 95 on your way to Beatty. They sure are pretty and interesting to look out - I've taken hundreds of photos of the colors in this valley over the years!

April 2023!

The area is most known for the Area 51 Alien Center truck stop along Highway 95 which sits 14 miles NE. I always stop here to gas up and grab a great cheese burger out of the little restaurant at the back. There's a pink brothel on one side that I have never ventured into! And the other side has a fireworks megastore - what more fun can you ask for!

A bit further down the road is Beatty, known as the Gateway to Death Valley. I frequently stop at the Death Valley Candy & Nut Company who advertises they are the biggest candy store in Nevada. It's filled with every type of candy you can imagine, especially from when we were kids. There's also a large variety of nuts, a Subway, ice cream and several gas pumps. I buy pecans for pecan pies here!

This sure is an oddball area and way off the beaten path - MY KINDA PLACE! Oh I am thrilled after 20 years of being in the land game to put up for sale my first pieces of land in Amargosa Valley! I am sure some sunbird is going to enjoy exploring this valley and Death Valley! Enjoy! Char the Explorer : )

Property Maps

Prior to visiting the property I suggest you study the maps and the satellite image as they tell the story on how to get there. Get a mental picture of how to get to a property from a main road. I frequently write notes on how I got to the property.

Print out the important maps like the parcel map, aerial photo with the GPS coords and street map. These are the maps I use myself if I was going to view the property. You can enter the latitude and longitude into Google or Bing maps by putting a comma between them.

I also suggest you bring a street dedicated GPS like a Garmin, not your phone. Do not rely on your GPS to take you the correct way as she'll take you down miles of roads that aren't the main drags. I've named mine Thelma and Louise because she's tried to drive me off a cliff a few times! If I could just get Brad Pitt to sit in the back seat! : )

Most of the properties I sell are down some kind of dirt road - my favs! Be smart and bring a shovel, water, food, blankets, mace, a dog and anything else you might need if you get stuck for a day or two. I've been stuck in the sand, a marsh, had tires blow out - you name it. Be prepared, be safe, and have fun. She's a beautiful Earth. We only get one shot here - get out there and see all she has to offer. Char the Explorer : )

Nye County - Beatty, Amargosa Valley, & Death Valley National Park

Nye County - Beatty, Amargosa Valley, & Death Valley National Park

All of these photos were taken on our journeys to Beatty and Amargosa Valley in Nye County, NV and Death Valley National Park. Beatty sits in the northernmost part of Amargosa Valley, about 100 miles NW of Las Vegas, and is the closest town to Death Valley.

Many know this stop along Highway 95 for the Death Valley Candy & Nut Company who advertises they are the biggest candy store in Nevada. It's filled with every type of candy you can imagine, especially from when we were kids. There's also a large variety of nuts, a Subway, ice cream and several gas pumps. My best friend and I stopped here in 2016 and talked to an elderly lady celebrating her 80th birthday.  So we decided we needed to celebrate our 80th birthdays here as well and remind ourselves each year that we are one year closer!

The town of Amargosa Valley is a small community about 70 miles NW of Las Vegas, offering a hotel/casino, school, library, play grounds and a fire department.

It's probably most known for the Area 51 Alien Center with a brothel on one side and fireworks store on the other! It's sits along Highway 95 as you make your way from Las Vegas to Reno and is a busy stop along this middle of nowhere route! I've stopped here many times and they have a fabulous little restaurant in the back with great cheeseburgers!

In April 2013 we pulled into the Alien Center and I spotted this little hot number at the gas pump! I was telling him how fun it looked and he said jump in so I did! He told me he was out playing in the big sand dune just down the road! 8 years later I finally purchased my first properties out here in the middle of nowhere!

The valley is surprisingly agricultural and I've stopped a few times now to take photos of this alfalfa field. I read that in the winter months they turn off the irrigation and shepherds who graze their sheep in the CA mountains bring the flock to Amargosa where they graze on the alfalfa fields.  The sheep chewing and walking all over the fields helps the alfalfa roots spread so that the crop is more uniform the next year.  Plus, the sheep provide free fertilizer!

My Dear Cousin Rhett

There sure are some great gardeners in this valley!

The valley is surrounded by gorgeous colorful mountains! I drove west to the end of Amargosa Farm Road where it borders CA to take photos of the colorful Funeral Mountains and her interesting swirls! They form the east wall of Death Valley.

Amargosa Valley borders Death Valley National Park on it's west side. I was curious how much cooler Amargosa Valley was to Death Valley and the average temperature in July in Amargosa Valley is 103 and Death Valley is 116 - so quite a bit cooler but still very hot summer days and mild winters. The average yearly precipitation is 4.29 inches. It sits between the Funeral Mountains to the west and Yucca Mountain and the Nellis Air Force Range to the east.

The Amargosa River is an intermittent waterway that starts around Beatty. It drains the Amargosa Valley into the Mojave Desert, and finally into Death Valley where it disappears into the ground aquifer. Except for a small portion of its route in the Amargosa Canyon in CA and a small portion at Beatty, the river flows above ground only after a rare rainstorm.

Death Valley is the hottest, driest and lowest place in the USA with Badwater Basin sitting 282 feet below sea level. The hottest temperature ever recorded on Earth, 134*, was at Furnace Creek in 1913. Over 1 million people trek here each year.

My first time visiting Death Valley National Park in January 2017 was on accident. I was headed to the Nye County Courthouse in Independce, CA and that was the shortest route out of Las Vegas. That turned out to be quite the adventure. There was snow that day in the park and the ranger said they only had snow on the valley floor about every decade!

I was surprised to see Joshua Trees here - they mark the Mojave Desert and Death Valley sits in the northern part of this desert.

Although I have not visited Ash Meadows National Wildife Refuge, it sure interesting. It's a protected wildlife refuge south of the town of Amargosa Valley and east of Death Valley National Park. I copied this from the US Fish & Wildlife website - a definite add to my bucket list!

Top reasons to visit the Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge

1.  Its the largest remaining oasis in the Mojave Desert.

2.  Nearly 30 species of plants and animals that don't exist anyplace else on earth (referred to as endemic species).

3.  Ash Meadows has the highest concentration of endemic species in the United States.

4.  See relict species of desert fish that have existed here since mammoths drank from these very springs.

5.  Have you ever heard of fossil water?  The water here is known as fossil water because it comes from melted ice from the last ice age.

6.  This is a photographer's paradise where ice blue spring pools are a stark contrast against the harsh desert landscape.

7.  Ash Meadows is recognized internationally as an important wetland.

8.  The mysterious Devils Hole over 500 feet deep and the bottom has never been found.

9.  Each of the three boardwalks offer something unique to see and all are wheelchair accessible.  There are picnic areas and benches too.
