This is a first - I am going to show the photos of the animals on the way to the property!
Numenius americanus aka a long-billed curlew and the candlestick bird.
Candlestick Park Stadium in San Francisco is named after it. It is said that by the time the stadium was constructed in the 50's they weren't around anymore. At one time it was on the Near Threatened list but it has returned to Least Concern in 2008. The female usually hits the road for winter grounds and leaves the male behind to take care of the young when they are 1-3 weeks old! Absolutely beautiful and unique! Who would think you would find this in the high desert! I picked this up at the tax sale and this was a huge reason why! I wanted to show it!
This is a Canis familiaris aka Domestic Dog - dang he was cute as he sat at the corner of his yard next door making sure I saw him. He sure was giving me his best smile and I could clearly tell he wanted to kiss me! Ha!
Wait there was another one - looks a bit jealous!
Bos taurus aka cows grazing here! Nevada is open range and if you don't want the cows on your property you need to fence it. Cattle rustling used to be a penalty of hanging - not quite as severe today but still you can't just take it if it's on your property. Apparently not everyone knows that so now we all do!
It sure was a plush green in April!
This farm girl loved the barnyard animals along the way!
Equus caballus aka horses!
-
Equus asinus aka burros- too cute! I looked up to see the difference between a burro and a donkey because I can't tell the difference - turns out burro is Spanish for donkey! Laughing at myself! : ) But the term donkey is mostly used to describe one that is domesticated and a burro is mostly used to descibe the wild ones originally from Mexico. They live to be about 40 - 50 years old - so plan on having these neighbors around for a while!
Cute tail wagging - I didn't ask him if he wanted to come home with me but he clearly does! I almost missed the mountain range peaks covered in snow in the background - oh it's pretty out here!
9.07 acres in Golconda, Nevada about 20 minutes east of Winnemucca and 2.5 hours NE of Reno. There's easy access off I-80 and power cuts thru a corner of the property! Oh what a gorgeous view of the Sonoma Mountains and it's a super cute country setting with barnyard animals along the way!
All of photos were taken in April 2022 of the property and surrounding views. Take the Golconda exit off I-80 and turn south to the frontage road which will put you in the subdivision. My GPS wanted to take a lot of roads to get me to the property but the road is great shape the entire way to the property as there is a neighbor next door. So here are the roads to take for easiest access - a note that my GPS did not show Algonkin connecting to Navajo but it does!
This map showing how to get from I-80 to the property is below in the map section as well. I suggest saving it to your phone or printing for easy reference.
Looking west on Belgian Drive - you can see the Sonoma Mountains which start about 1/2 mile away
Looking east on Belgian Drive - I-80 sits 4/10 mile away and on the other side is an irrigated cropfield.
Looking east across the property to the adjoining neighbor who has a new place set up - nice spot! You can also see the power poles to their property and they cross thru the corner of this property as well. You would need to contact the local power company for the cost to bring it onto this property but it's right there!! $$$
The property is flat with a gentle slope from the west to the east. It is covered in a thick grassy vegetation. It looks like whoever grazes their cows here cleared the sagebrush and it's a plush landscape.
Looking NW to NE across the street to Winnemucca Mountain and the Santa Rosa Range which lies to the north of Winnemucca.
The Sonoma Mountains offer absolutely stunning views! A picture is worth 1000 words and here's a few thousand words! SWEET!
The little stream you cross over on the way to the property had water coming out of the Sonoma Mountains which start about 1/2 mile west!
Golconda is a small town of about 200 people with a post office and not much else that I recall! Winnemucca is the largest town in the area of about 7400 people and the hub city of central northern Nevada. During the week it can be hard to find a hotel because of all the out of town workers for the large mining companies. It is considered high desert with lots of sunshine, hot summers and cold winters. It offers a hospital, Wal-Mart, a few lumber stores although you would need to go to Reno or Elko for Home Depot. And it sure has some awesome restaurants and fun casinos in their downtown.
I frequently stop by Rye Patch Reservoir when I'm in the area to take a peek at the water level! It sits about 50 miles SW of Winnemucca. The Humboldt River finds its early beginnings in Elko County and it flows across the state to this reservoir. The 22 mile long reservoir is open year round for camping, water-skiing and fishing.
I frequently see antelope in the area and spotted this on the other side of Winnemucca in 2020.
I think this would be a great spot for a miner that needs quick access to Interstate 80 and is looking for a lot of space to spread out! Enjoy! Char the Explorer : )

Prior to visiting the property I suggest you study the maps and the satellite image as they tell the story on how to get there. Get a mental picture of how to get to a property from a main road. I frequently write notes on how I got to the property.
Print out the important maps like the parcel map, aerial photo with the GPS coords and street map. These are the maps I use myself if I was going to view the property. You can enter the latitude and longitude into Google or Bing maps by putting a comma between them.
I also suggest you bring a street dedicated GPS like a Garmin, not your phone. Do not rely on your GPS to take you the correct way as she'll take you down miles of roads that aren't the main drags. I've named mine Thelma and Louise because she's tried to drive me off a cliff a few times! If I could just get Brad Pitt to sit in the back seat! : )
Most of the properties I sell are down some kind of dirt road - my favs! Be smart and bring a shovel, water, food, blankets, mace, a dog and anything else you might need if you get stuck for a day or two. I've been stuck in the sand, a marsh, had tires blow out - you name it. Be prepared, be safe, and have fun. She's a beautiful Earth. We only get one shot here - get out there and see all she has to offer. Char the Explorer : )
All of these photos were taken on our journeys to Humboldt and Pershing County including Lovelock, Winnemucca, Grass Valley, Paradise Valley and the Buena Vista Valley area!
