PROPERTY INFORMATION
A recreational town lot for sale in Christmas Valley, Oregon about 1 hour south of Bend, and ten miles from the Christmas Valley Sand Dunes. Its an ATV off-road enthusiasts dream on the eastern side of the Cascade Mountains in Central Oregon. Often referred to as the "Oregon Outback," this region is an arid climate with lots of sunshine! This little town lot in Christmas Valley is inexpensive spot for someone seeking a dirt cheap getaway!

All of the photos were taken in April 2012 of the property and the surrounding views as well as Christmas Valley Lake which is just down the road and a few local businesses. I have been to a few streets in the town before but had not seen quite a bit of it I see! I passed by the Lakeside Terrace Restaurant Motel RV Park, the North Lake Health Clinic, Christmas Valley Lake, Outback Home Care, tennis courts beside a cute little park with a playground, and the Desert Inn Motel where some kids were out having a good time riding horses!

The property is covered in tall thick sage brush and I actually stood on the back end of the truck to take the photos since I could barely see over some of it! It is a nice quiet area and I liked the pretty red barns to the SW. There area has lots of pretty groves of trees to the NE and hills and trees from the NW to the N. It is a pretty view and it is too bad it was a cloudy day. To the south is a mesa and very cool peaks that rise up off her!

Oak Street is a gravel/dirt road that runs along the south of the property and was in great shape. I also included a photo of Maple Street which is to the west and this is how we came in to the property. It also is in great shape and it was very easy to find the road. We used the gps coordinates to locate the property and you will need to find the pins or have a surveyor help you if you can not locate them to know for sure just where the property is.

There is a neighbor about two lots to the west that has quite a bit of junk. I am not sure if it is abandoned or not. There is also a neighbor across the way to the south on the south side of blk 15 which is the closest power I saw as well. There are a few other neighbors sprinkled about the area further away as seen in the photos and aerial photos.

This property sits about 16 mile SW as the crow flies from the Christmas Valley Sand Dunes. We have noted this in the section map and aerial photos. Each square on the section map represents one square mile. We also included a map of the Oregon Outback scenic byways. I actually ended up driving NE on 15-14C as seen in this map. It sure was beautiful as I saw herd after herd of antelope and deer. I finally had to quit stopping and taking photos as we would never have gotten out of there! It was stunning and beautiful and I was so surprised to once again find something cool on my travels - how many times had I driven by that road and never realized what was down it! Oh I love rural America!

Christmas Valley is a small town community of about 1,000 people that offers basic amenities, and is also world known for its alfalfa production! If you have been seeking a place to hang out in your RV while you play in the sand dunes, or a place to get away from everyone while you go explore the Great Oregon OUtback be sure and check this out. Located only an hour out of Bend, Oregon this rural getaway might just be your spot! Enjoy! Char the Explorer : )

Lake County - Christmas Valley and Lakeview Area Photos

Lake County - Christmas Valley and Lakeview Area Photos

A video I made of Christmas Valley Lake in Lake County in the Great Oregon Outback!

Christmas Valley is located in the Great Oregon Outback in Lake County about 100 miles SE of Bend. It is a high desert region on the eastern side of the Cascade Mountains. It is a mixture of farmers growing the largest concentration of alfalfa in Oregon and people seeking rural land. The biggest highlight is the 11,000 acres at the Christmas Valley Sand Dunes for ATV enthusiasts to play on, the largest in the Pacific Northwest.

It is a friendly town and I really have come to enjoy stopping at the hotel on the lake and being woken up by the birds at the crack of a beautiful dawn! It has a small town beat of its own and about 1300 people call this place home.

Originally subdivided back in the 1960's this place never really took off and instead has slowly grown over the years. Today the town consists of a post office, 9 hole golf course, health clinic, a couple of restaurants, church, grocery/gas stores, a school, the rodeo grounds, library and airport to name a few. One afternoon we stopped at the clubhouse for lunch and I found myself chuckling to myself as the farmers came driving right up in their big tractors!

This area is best known by off-road enthusiasts who spend vacation time at the nearby Christmas Valley Sand Dunes! Christmas Valley contains 11,000 acres of sand dunes up to 60 feet high and is available to off-highway use. The dunes are open to Class I, II and III ATVs year round, but can be inaccessible during the winter and spring months due to extremely muddy roads. The dunes are composed largely of ash and pumice that blew into the area over 7,000 years ago when Mt. Mazama erupted, forming Crater Lake. People trek here many weekends in the summertime to play in the famous dunes!

To the west is Fort Rock Basin which some of the earliest known inhabitants of this continent called home. Sandals found in the cave date back 9,000 years.

We included a map of the Christmas Valley Back County Byway. In April 2012 I drove County Road 5-14C. It sure was stunning and beautiful as I saw herd after herd of antelope and deer. I finally had to quit stopping and taking photos as we would never have gotten out of there! I was so surprised to once again find something cool on my travels - how many times had I driven by that road and never realized what was down it! Oh I love rural America!

It is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation, National Scenic Byways Program. The program is a grass-roots collaborative effort established to help recognize, preserve and enhance selected roads as All-American Roads or National Scenic Byways based on one or more archeological, cultural, historic, natural, recreational and scenic qualities.

Fossil Lake is also in the area as seen in the Back Country Byway map. It is home to many fossils ranging from 10,000 to over 2 million years old. I included a few photos of tiny shells I found a few miles SE of the lake in April 2012. I read an article online from 1978 about the ban of off road vehicles in this area to protect these fossils. I was wondering what shells were doing out there - or at least that's what I think they are! Scientists have collected and identified fossil remains of 25 species of birds, 7 species of fish and 11 species of mollusks.
