This 20 acres of land for sale in Elko County Nevada Cowboy County about 25 miles NE of Elko as the crow flies and about an hour south of the Idaho state line. It is about half way between Reno, NV and Salt Lake City, Utah, and nine miles north of I-80. This area is a bit off the beaten path, but still a quick jump on the interstate and you're in the busy town of Elko in minutes!
All of the photos were taken in October 2011 about 1.5 miles SE and you can still see this property in the photos as well in the distance. We took the graveled Ryndon - Coal Mine Canyon Road out to the area. I studied google earth for a bit and have been out in this area previously and I would try to come in from the NE off of Coal Mine Canyon Road thru the Ruby View Ranchos. From the bottom of section 13 it looks like a road leads west down the top of the section right to the property.
The area is in the foothills of the rolling Adobe Range as it falls gently down to the valley floor. You can see several small tributaries to the Coal Mine Canyon Creeks through the area where the low points are between these gentle rolling hills.
There are stunning views of the Ruby Mountains looming large from the SW to the SE and in front of them are the Elko Hills. It has breathtaking, sweeping views across the valley in all directions! Often called the Swiss Alps of Nevada, the Ruby Mountains rise to 11,300 feet at Ruby Dome. I thought there was lots of character in the Adobe Range from the NW to the NE and this property sits in those hills to the NW.
After we view this area we drove N to Devils Gate Ranch, a beautiful ranch with hay fields. I was not disappointed either when we spotted a HUGE herd of deer out grazing in the distance in the fields by the river - what a beautiful sight! By the time we got done watching them and made it down to the North Fork of the Humboldt River to the SE it was dark. So, we took a photo of the river in the headlights...guess that's what I get for being slow, but it was worth it!
As we stopped in Elko for our last time to fill up before leaving I noticed a quad with a big elk head on it. I quickly grabbed my camera and went over and asked if it was permanently mounted on it. They said they had just got it the day before and packed it out from up by Wild Horse! I asked if I could take their photo and use it on my website and that it would forever be in history that way and they were great sports! So a big thanks to all the friendly folks in Elko.
