PROPERTY INFORMATION

1 acre of land for sale in Belen, New Mexico with good access on a graveled road about 1 hour S of Albuquerque. I thought it was a pretty part of the Rio Grande Estates and its zoned for a home or RV use. It’s about ten minutes E of Interstate 25 and 8.5 miles E of the Rio Grande River by Mountainair and Los Lunas in Socorro County. The bottom of the subdivision is bordered by the Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge and there are pretty views of the Manzano Mountains, home of the Cibola National Forest. My notes say pretty, pretty!

All of the photos were taken of the property and its surrounding views in May 2015. The quickest way to the property is to take Lazano Street N off Highway 60 and then cut over one block east to Macias Street. Macias is a graveled dirt road that was in great shape and runs along the west side of the property. There is a metal tag marker across the street for the SE corner of block 123 that I included a photo of and this property is right across the street to the east!

The property sits in a pretty part of the Rio Grande Estates down on the valley floor and for the most part it is flat with a bit of scattered native plants, grass and lots of spring time flowers blooming! It sits in the block furthest east in the subdivision and the block this property sits in is fenced at the back of the lot along its east side. Tierra Grande is another subdivision that adjoins it on the other side of the fence to the east and is also largely undeveloped.

From the NE to the SE is a beautiful big long view of the Manzano Mountains where you will find part of the Cibola National Forest. She is so close by you can see the trees that are at the top of her peaks and in her lower foothills. To the S across the other side of Hwy 60, Black Butte pops up out of the valley floor at the end of the road adding more things to look at!

I especially like the view of the mesa with pretty reddish colors that rises above the Bosque along the Rio Grande River from the NW to the SW! Bosque is the name for the trees that grow along the river.

Further to the SW are the Sierra Ladrones with Ladron Peak at 9,210 feet. She towers almost 4,500 feet above the Rio Grande Valley! Part of the range is included in the Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge which sits just below this subdivision as seen in the maps. Animal species include mountain lion, pronghorn, bear, and desert bighorn sheep. I spent a couple hours exploring the part down by the river one day and saw some beautiful wildlife as seen in the area photos.

There is no one close by and a few neighbors are scattered in the distance as seen in the photos and aerial photos so plenty of privacy for now. There are minimal zoning restrictions allowing for a home, mobile home or RV. You certainly see all different sorts of building out here because of the minimal zoning and some of them need cleaned up. But it is a very affordable!

There is a large labor force in Los Lunas and Belen that work in Albuquerque and they can now take the Rail Runner into Albuquerque! A few times now I have caught the parking lot full and the train with her cool roadrunner on top! I really enjoy the art on it and read that the name is a play on the state bird the roadrunner. Many consider this a great place to retire because of the relaxed lifestyle: no lawn to mow unless you plant one, pueblo-style buildings, and year round accessibility to Albuquerque where the International Airport is located.

I thought this would be a pretty spot for someone to easily pull in their RV and enjoy the sunshine. Char the Explorer : )

Socorro County Area and Rio Grande Estates Subdivision Photos

Socorro County Area and Rio Grande Estates Subdivision Photos

All of these photos were taken on our journeys to Socorro County and the Rio Grande Estates subdivision. Socorro County is centrally located in the State of New Mexico. It is bordered to the north by Valencia County and the city of Belen which is about 32 miles S of Albuquerque sits just to the north of the county line. The county seat is the the city of Socorro which is located further south along the Rio Grande River, an hour south of Albuquerque and two hours north of Las Cruces. Belen is in a valley nestled against the Manzano Mountains on the east, and Mesas on the west. This is a growing area and in February 2007 completed the commuter rail service between Albuquerque and Belen. There is a large labor force in Los Lunas and Belen that work in Albuquerque and they can now take the Rail Runner into Albuquerque! Many consider this a great place to retire because of the relaxed lifestyle: no lawn to mow unless you plant one, pueblo-style buildings, and year round accessibility to Albuquerque 30 miles away where the International Airport is located. The City of Belen's population is currently about 7000. They have an average annual rainfall of 10 inches per year and snowfall of 11 inches and many people consider the climate ideal. The daytime high temperatures are in the low 90's in the summer months and daytime high temperatures are in the 50's in the winter months . The temperatures do fall below freezing during the winter months but the snow quickly melts. With such wonderful weather conditions area offers an abundance of recreational activities. The majestic Manzano Mountains, encompassing 36,970 acres, and the Cibola National Forest both provide unlimited opportunities for hiking trails, hunting, horseback riding, backpacking, camping etc. Across the valley to the SW of Belen is the Sierra Ladrones which lies between the Rio Puerco to the east and the Rio Salado to the southwest. The highest peak is Ladron Peak at 9,210 feet and her summit is almost 4500 feet above the Rio Grande Valley! Part of the range is included in the Sevellita National Wildlife Refuge. Animal species include mountain lion, pronghorn, bear and desert bighorn sheep Belen also offers recreational swimming, soccer, volleyball, and tennis as well. Terra Del Sol Golf Course, considered an executive course, is an 18 hole course with dining open to the public. It is home to the National Radio Astronomy Observatory and New Mexico Tech. There has been quite a bit of growth to the north of this county in the Belen and Los Lunas areas and the location of these communities from Albuquerque makes it inevitable. Click here for the Sandia Mountain Wilderness Area in the Cibola National Forest website. It covers 37,200 acres on the west side of the Sandia Mountains.
