Listing: Rio Grande Estates Unit 8 Block 335 L3 Land for sale in Belen New Mexico

I spotted a black-tailed jackrabbit in the Rio Grande Estates in Socorro County, New Mexico. Also known as the American desert hare, it's the 3rd largest hare in North America. They weigh between 3 to 6 pounds and reach a length of about 2 feet. It sure did pick a pretty country setting right beside the big cow farm about 1 hour S of Albuquerque, New Mexico by Belen and Mountainair.

In Valencia And Socorro County!

1 acre lot for sale in the Rio Grande Estates by Belen and Mountainair, New Mexico about 1 hour S of Albuquerque in Socorro County. It’s about 12 miles NE of Interstate 25 and 6 miles E of the Rio Grande. It’s close to a big cow farm and you can see the cows from the property for sale for those who love the barnyard animals! There are beautiful views across the valley of the Manzano Mountains and the Bosque above the river! Its zoned for home or RV use.

All of the photos were taken in May 2015 at block 353 lot 6 which is about 8 blocks north of this property for sale and we noted this in the maps. Wow was quite the storm brewing making for a heck of a show across the Rio Grande Basin!

It sits on the very west side of the subdivision towards the top. There is a road that leads out of the north part of the subdivision to a country road that takes you into Belen. This is a cute drive and the way I prefer to drive when leaving this part of the subdivision. I think it’s also quicker than driving to highway 60 and Interstate 25 at the bottom of the subdivision if you just need to go to Belen.

Olivia Avenue is a dirt road along the north. Barela Street is a decent gravel/dirt road that runs along the west end of the block and seen in the photos below.

There are a few neighbors and homes in this area so power is close by and we noted it in the maps where it is from the different properties. But no one immediately adjoins this property and for the most part it remains undeveloped.

There are minimal zoning restrictions allowing for a home, mobile home or RV. You certainly see all different sorts of building out here because of the minimal zoning and some of them need cleaned up. It is a rural country setting and for the most part it remains largely undeveloped.

The property sits just east of a big cow farm and as us farm girls say, you could smell the money! It is a pretty view of the farm including a homemade hill for them to stand up on that I thought was funny! I’ve seen this since I was a kid and wonder why do cows love standing on top of a hill?!

There were a few black tailed jackrabbits running around – cute! It sits on the valley floor and for the most part it is flat with a bit of scattered native plants, grass and lots of spring time flowers blooming! There was a lone tree out here along the road which I was surprised to see growing.

From the NE to the SE is a beautiful big long view of the Manzano Mountains where you will find part of the Cibola National Forest. She is so close by you can see the trees that are at the top of her peaks and in her lower foothills.

To the S across the other side of Hwy 60, Black Butte pops up out of the valley floor at the end of the road adding more things to look at! The maps show this cool butte adjoins the Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge and so does the bottom of this subdivision. I spent an afternoon there by the Rio Grande, the 4th longest river in N America, and included some photos of the cool animals there!

From the NW to the SW is a view of the top of the bosque along the Rio Grande and the pretty reddish color mesa that rises beyond it across the other side of the valley. Bosque is the name for the trees that grow along the river. You can see the cow farm in this view as well.

Further across the valley to the SW are the Sierra Ladrones with Ladron Peak at 9,210 feet. She towers almost 4,500 feet above the Rio Grande Valley! Part of the range is included in the refuge as well. Animal species include mountain lion, pronghorn, bear, and desert bighorn sheep.

The wide open valley is called the Middle Rio Grande Basin, aka the Albuquerque Basin. It is one of the largest and deepest basins covering 3100 square miles and the Rio Grande, the 4th longest river in N America, flows thru it from the N to the S. The Rio Puerco is a tributary to the Rio Grande and these two meet up at the Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge.

There is a large labor force in Los Lunas and Belen that work in Albuquerque and they can now take the Rail Runner into Albuquerque! A few times now I have caught the parking lot full and the train with her cool roadrunner on top! I really enjoy the art on it and read that the name is a play on the state bird the roadrunner. Many consider this a great place to retire because of the relaxed lifestyle: no lawn to mow unless you plant one, pueblo-style buildings, and year round accessibility to Albuquerque where the International Airport is located.

The area boasts of having nearly 80% sunny days although I didn’t have much luck the day I viewed this part! Wow what a beautiful storm to be out taking pictures in! I think this would be a pretty spot for someone looking for an inexpensive place to build a home or just hang out in your RV and watch the monsoons! Enjoy! Char the Explorer : )

Socorro County Area and Rio Grande Estates Subdivision Photos

Socorro County Area and Rio Grande Estates Subdivision Photos

All of these photos were taken on our journeys to Socorro County and the Rio Grande Estates subdivision. Socorro County is centrally located in the State of New Mexico. It is bordered to the north by Valencia County and the city of Belen which is about 32 miles S of Albuquerque sits just to the north of the county line. The county seat is the the city of Socorro which is located further south along the Rio Grande River, an hour south of Albuquerque and two hours north of Las Cruces. Belen is in a valley nestled against the Manzano Mountains on the east, and Mesas on the west. This is a growing area and in February 2007 completed the commuter rail service between Albuquerque and Belen. There is a large labor force in Los Lunas and Belen that work in Albuquerque and they can now take the Rail Runner into Albuquerque! Many consider this a great place to retire because of the relaxed lifestyle: no lawn to mow unless you plant one, pueblo-style buildings, and year round accessibility to Albuquerque 30 miles away where the International Airport is located. The City of Belen's population is currently about 7000. They have an average annual rainfall of 10 inches per year and snowfall of 11 inches and many people consider the climate ideal. The daytime high temperatures are in the low 90's in the summer months and daytime high temperatures are in the 50's in the winter months . The temperatures do fall below freezing during the winter months but the snow quickly melts. With such wonderful weather conditions area offers an abundance of recreational activities. The majestic Manzano Mountains, encompassing 36,970 acres, and the Cibola National Forest both provide unlimited opportunities for hiking trails, hunting, horseback riding, backpacking, camping etc. Across the valley to the SW of Belen is the Sierra Ladrones which lies between the Rio Puerco to the east and the Rio Salado to the southwest. The highest peak is Ladron Peak at 9,210 feet and her summit is almost 4500 feet above the Rio Grande Valley! Part of the range is included in the Sevellita National Wildlife Refuge. Animal species include mountain lion, pronghorn, bear and desert bighorn sheep Belen also offers recreational swimming, soccer, volleyball, and tennis as well. Terra Del Sol Golf Course, considered an executive course, is an 18 hole course with dining open to the public. It is home to the National Radio Astronomy Observatory and New Mexico Tech. There has been quite a bit of growth to the north of this county in the Belen and Los Lunas areas and the location of these communities from Albuquerque makes it inevitable. Click Here for the Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge website.
Click here for the Sandia Mountain Wilderness Area in the Cibola National Forest website. It covers 37,200 acres on the west side of the Sandia Mountains.
