We sure saw a lot of deer in Hamlin, Kentucky while exploring Pine Bluff Shores!

Pine Bluff Shores is a small subdivision about 15 miles east of Murray, Kentucky in Hamlin. It is tucked in against Kentucky Lakes in extreme southwest Kentucky by Land Between the Lakes. It is just above the border of Tennessee and about 125 miles northwest of Nashville. There is a free public boat ramp into Kentucky Lakes in the cove to the north called Boyd's Branch and it looks like it is a couple minutes drive away and less than a mile away as the crow flies. The busy town of Murray is about twenty minutes west where you will find major shopping including a super Walmart and Murray State University. For the 17th year U.S.News and World has ranked this university among America's top universities! The 2008 population estimate is 36,240 for Calloway County and 16,557 for the town of Murray.

I had a chance to view this subdivision in November 2007 and that is when I took all of the photos. It was a beautiful time of year and we caught the stunning fall colors turning in the tall trees! Kentucky sure is pretty in the fall! I have only been to Kentucky a few times now. I live in Washington State myself and love the fall colors in the trees here and Kentucky reminded me a lot of Washington State in the fall. There were several deer roaming around and it is a very pretty rural setting.

These two adjoining lots look like they are sitting along one of the main roads in the subdivision only three streets west of the lake! The maps we received from the county are not very clear and we have tried our best to match up the subdivision map to the street maps and it looks like some of the names have changed and not all the streets look like they are in. You will definitely need to bring the maps with you to view the property and see for yourself. This road does appear to be in though from the aerial photos. They are 50 x 100 each so they total 10,000 square feet which is .23 of an acre. We spoke to the county to see if Rv's were also allowed and they said there were no restrictive covenants against it so it appears to be zoned for a home or RV. You would definitely want to check with the county to see if there is a limit to the length of stay in an RV or any other requirements.

This is an older mix of nicer homes especially along the lake and homes/mobile homes on the interior lots and some of those are older and need work. It looks like some people come here a few times a year and others live all year around. It is a short drive to Murray and I think this is a quiet place in the country side well off the beaten path. You can tell that this has been an inexpensive getaway for people for several years and it's begging to have some people find it and put it to good use! There are several homes in this subdivision already and I think it is well worth checking out if you're looking for a place to stay and play or a place to call home by Kentucky Lake! Enjoy! SUBDIVISION AND LOCAL AREA INFORMATION

I had no idea turtles lived in this part of our world! Very cool!

Pine Bluff Shores is a subdivision tucked in against Kentucky Lakes just above the Tennessee border. It is a beautiful area that has been around since the 60's or 70's. There are several homes throughout it - beautiful homes mixed in amongst some older trailers from years We saw several deer as we drove through this area! There is a public boat launch called Boyd's Branch just to the north off of Scoggins Drive.

There is so much to do and see in this area! Lane Between the Lakes National Recreational Area is an inland peninsula formed when the Cumberland and Tennessee Rivers were impounded to create Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley in the 1960's. It brings over $600 million to the tourism industry in the region and hosts an average of two million visitors a year! Managed by the USDA Forest Service, it has more than 170,000 acres and 300 miles of undeveloped shoreline.

We spent a rainy afternoon discovering the Land Between the Lakes and it's 700-acre Elk and Bison Prairie in June of 2007. There are actually two different areas to view the bison. The first place is a free stop along the road where we saw a herd of about 60. I spoke to very nice retired gentleman while I was gazing at the herd and it turned out he worked there and was a wealth of information. There were about 40 women in the herd, 16 kids and three bulls. The calves ranged from one week to a couple of months old. I sure didn't see any calves that looked a week old - these babies are huge! He was telling me that last year during mating season there was quite the fight between the dominant bull and another one who got thrown over the fence. I loved his stories and took his advice and drove further up the road to the Elk and Bison Prairie.

I think this is the newborn calf on the left hand side of the first picture below.

We paid to drive through the 700 acre Elk and Bison Prairie seen in the pictures below. We drove for a while before we saw the herd of grazing bison. They were a slow moving group munching as they took each step. We also saw a beautiful elk in the trees with a huge rack as well as a few other locals out enjoying the afternoon! We decided to drive it again since it's the same price no matter how many times you drive through it. On our second trip through we spotted an elk that was trapped between the grazing buffalo and the road. It nervously kept watch as the buffalo poked their way around it. What a beautiful way to spend a rainy day!

The town of Murray is home of Murray State University, first known as Murray State Teachers College in 1922. For the 17th year U.S.News and World has ranked this university among America's top universities!
