This 3.51 acres is located about an 45 minutes northeast of Klamath Falls in Southern Central Oregon and a few minutes northwest of the little town of Sprague River. Klamath County is located in the eastern foothills of the Cascade Mountains, bordering northern California. Klamath Falls, the fourth largest county in Oregon, is the county seat as well as the largest nearby town. This subdivision is a favorite for many seeking a rural setting off the beaten path and is a beautiful place for those that want to live in the countryside! It is a gorgeous area on the pacific flyway and a fisherman's and hunter's paradise! I love this drive to town and have seen flock after flock of birds, kids out hunting and even a few pelicans along the river. I had no idea that pelicans lived in Klamath Falls!

All of the photos are of the actual property and surrounding views in August 2009. There was a burn through this area a few years back and although some areas of the timber have been cleaned this area still has standing burnt trees in the distance. There were plenty of big beauties left standing though which you can see in the photos to the north. It is a peaceful setting overlooking the mountains to the north and west. You can see the mountains across the valley through the trees to the south. It has a few scattered big tall pine trees, some shorter trees, taller sage brush, and grass. The sage brush was turning yellow in their fall colors and was pretty. This property is fairly flat with a gentle roll towards the east. The dirt was a bit sandy to the east in places. The lot across the road has a marked sign making this easy property to find. You can see in the aerials and photos that there is a hillside to the east that slopes down and levels off to where this property is.

There was a deer by the property when we pulled up but I wasn't quick enough to get a photo! We drove up from the southwest side of the subdivision and that is a bit rough on the way up - we didn't need 4wd but we did need the clearance of the truck in a few places. However on the way out we went to the north and the road up there was great as there is a home one block to the northeast at Prong Horn lane and Plateau Drive. They had a cute donkey out front. A much smoother ride coming in from the north!

You can see in the map links that the Winema National Forest is only about 1/4 of a mile to the north! I obtained the following information on the US Forest Service website: "The Fremont-Winema National Forests offer 2.3 million acres to explore! The heavily timbered western portion of the forests is bordered by the crest of the Cascade Mountain Range and Crater Lake National Park, and stretches east into the Klamath River Basin, an area known for its year-round sunshine. Near the floor of the Basin, the forest opens to vast marshes and meadows associated with Upper Klamath Lake and the Williamson River. To the north and east extensive stands of ponderosa and lodgepole pine grow on deep pumice and ash that blanketed the area during the eruption of Mt. Mazama (now Crater Lake) nearly 7,000 years ago. The eastern portion of the Forests offers expansive views, dramatic cliffs, and solitude. The area is known as Oregon's Outback, and provides the self-reliant recreationist the opportunity to discover nature in a rustic environment."

The population of Sgrague River is about 365 and has a store with basic necessities and there is also a post office. You would do your major shopping about 45 minutes away in Klamath Falls where you will find Wal-Mart and the county court house. I often get asked for property in this area by people that don't want a lot of restrictions and I mention this as a good option. The county assessed value of this property is $10,500! The zoning allows for a home or manufactured home or you can stay in an RV for a few weeks at a time while you enjoy the beauty this area offers! Plenty of privacy! Enjoy, Char the Explorer!

SUBDIVISION AND AREA INFORMATION:

Klamath Forest Estatse Subdivision is located in the eastern foothills of the Cascade Mountains near the small town of Sprague River in south central Oregon. It is about 50 miles north of the California State line and an hours drive northeast of Klamath Falls. Highway 93 and Crater Lake sit to the west. It is a very rural part of the county and although it remains largely undeveloped there is a large group of people that call this subdivision home. I think it is a beautiful subdivision with its big huge tall pine trees and wild birds flying around! There is a cute community store in the area and the small town of Sprague River just down the road offers another store, resturant and post office. The population of Sgrague River is about 365.

Klamath County sits on the pacific flyway and as you can see in some of the photos below this is a beautiful place to watch the birds. Millions of migrating birds rest and refuel in the county's six wildlife refuges. The largest concentration of bald eagles in the lower 48 states winters here. The first time I visited Elko I noticed that several businesses had pelicans as decorations. I thought that was sorta funny - they must be longing for Florida. Well one day we were driving along Lost River east of Klamath Falls and sure enough there were pelicans! : ) I researched and found out they are the American White Pelicans which migrate at far south as northeastern California. Hmmm who wudda thunk!

Spring 2009 Update: We spent some time looking at a few pieces of land near Klamath Falls and out by Sprague River. It has been a very cold spring making it difficult to get over the mountain passes and out to explore land and we caught snow coming over the pass into Klamath Falls and more scattered fluries again the next day while out exploring land. The locals were telling me how sunny and beautiful it had been the week before and I could see the spring flowers and trees starting to bloom! As always there were lots of animals to make for a fun day!

The National Geographic Adventure magazine named Klamath Falls as one of the "50 Next Great Adventure Towns West" referring to it as a "hot bargain" in September 2008. I see the town I live beside, Bellingham, WA is also on this list!

$4 MILLION in federal stimulus money has been granted to the US Bureau of Reclamation to contract the work to study the feasibility of removing four dams on the Klamath River to help struggling salmon runs.

We caught snow coming over Willamette Pass by the ski slopes!

The Klamath County Courthouse with beautiful springtime flowers on the trees!

This is the cute store out by Sprague River - Nutter's Market. These nice folks mentioned they were looking for a buyer - they have been in business for 25 years and offer feed, propane gas, and groceries to people in this community!
