Beautiful views across the valley of Buffalo Peaks at 13,326 feet!

This five acres of land is located in the Rocky Mountains about 115 miles southwest of Denver and 55 miles south of the infamous ski town of Breckenridge. Park County is bordered by three wilderness areas, two state parks, twelve state wildlife areas and it is easy to see why outdoorsman call this "A Park For All Seasons"! This property is about 14 miles south of Hartsel and a short drive to Spinney State Park!

We purchased a handful of properties in this area and this was my first trip to view our new properties in Park County! I was more than pleasantly surprised when I drove to this property! It sits about fourteen miles south of the small town of Hartsel, off the beaten track and the roads were easy to locate and most are marked. The setting is very peaceful and stunning! I took the photos from two different points of the property in October 2009. It was trying hard to snow but I could still make out the big mountain peaks that are part of Pike's National Forest to the west!

The property's terrain consists of big rolling hills with some flatter parts as well as steeper parts on top of the hills then the property slopes down towards the road to the east. The property flattens out before it reaches Chicha Road as seen in the photos and aerial maps. I drove to the top of the hill - I had to snake across an adjoining property to flatten out the ride to the top of the hills as it is a bit aggressive when you get up on top. And the views up there are fantastic of the valley below sprinkled with trees and surrounding hills! There is incredible awesome views of the snow capped mountains in the far distance from the northwest spanning towards the southwest! This is where you see the Buffalo Peaks which rise 13,326 feet! There are also pretty views of the treed valley and more mountains to the north. The nearby hills that are sprinkled with trees.

There is an RV and other recreational vehicles parked across the street and a house/cabin about 3/4 mile east of this property as seen in the photos. What a beautiful setting! If you've been looking for a place close to the ski towns that surround Denver or for a place to hang your hat while you go fishing be sure and check this out! We worked a long time to bring property to you at an affordable price so close to Denver and surrounded by Pike's National Forest - an outdoorsman's paradise! Enjoy! Char the Explorer : )

Neighbors to the east  - the RV is across the street and the cabin is in the distance. I drove down the road to get a better shot of the cabin - both great ideas for a place to get away!

Park County Area Information

A few of the locals I saw near Hartsel!

This property is located in Park County nestled high in the Rocky Mountains about 100 miles southeast of Denver and only 40 miles south of the infamous ski town Breckenridge! The County is surrounded by Pike's National Forest and within its boundaries are three wilderness areas, two state parks, twelve state wildlife areas and more territory above 9,000 feet than any other Colorado County. 51% of it is Federal lands and it is easy to see why it is called "A Park For All Seasons"! The population is about 17,000 and has had a population grown of 18% since 2000. Summertime is long sunny days with daytime temperatures in the 70's and wintertime is cold with nighttime temperatures below zero and daytime just above freezing.

Fairplay is the most populated town with about 610 people and another 1500 in the outlying area. There is a historic area on the bluff overlooking the town with an open air museum - cute little place as you come into town. The town offers a couple of retail businesses, hotels/motels, service stations, grocery store, restaurants, bank, two medical clinics and a pharmacy for health services. Hartsel is a rural area about 18 miles south of Fairplay and has a western feel to it. It covers about 750 square miles of land and there are about 677 people that call this area home. The area has a gas station, post office, restaurant, trading post, real estate office and sits close to three reservoirs making this a destination spot for boaters and fisherman! I stopped at one of the stores for a quick grab and go and the folks were very friendly. The South Platte River flows from Pike National Forest through town providing outdoorsman with hiking and fishing. The grasslands were once home to vast herds of buffalo, antelope, elk and others and although things have changed I still saw all of them on my journeys here!

Breckenridge, a popular ski resort, sits about 22 miles to the north and it is a beautiful drive! It is the oldest and largest Colorado town in the area. In the winter months it offers world-class skiing and snowboarding with 2043 acres of ski runs, snowshoeing, ice skating and snowmobiling. Summer and fall offers hiking, rock-climbing, horseback riding, fishing, a public golf course, a 100 miles of paved biking trails! I stayed here one night and it really is an adorable town with tons of shopping, restaurants and places to stroll about. It is beautiful architect and you can easily see why this is a very popular tourist spot. It is easy to see why this ski town is as popular as nearby Vail and Aspen!

These are a few of my favorite photos taken in the area. For more pictures from our journeys to this area be sure and click on the Park County link below!

Fairplay, the county seat, with the libary that was once the county courthouse.

These photos were taken in the Hartsel area which is about 20 miles south of Fairplay.

The South Platte River which flows through the town of Hartsel.

These next photos were taken in the Estates of Colorado subdivision just south of Hartsel. There is a herd of buffalo on the way that I have seen twice now. Although they once roamed free they are still a sight to see! We also caught a few other locals out roaming around in the afternoon sunshine!

The Spinney Mountain Ranch State Wildlife Area which is a few minutes southeast of Hartsel. Known locally at the "Dream Stream" the river below the reservoir consistently produces large browns, rainbows and cutbows. This is a catch and release Gold Medal water and all fish must be released immediately to the stream.

Antero Reservoir which is just southwest of Hartsell was busy with boaters, campers and fisherman! We also saw a big herd of antelope nearby!

Breckenridge, Colorado is about a 45 minute drive north of Fairplay. I stayed the night there and it was beautiful to wake up in the morning and see the sunshine hitting the huge mountain peaks! You can see the runs coming down the hillsides they are so close! The town is filled with shopping, restaurants and it is easy to see why this is a popular tourist destination!
