This photo is looking across the valley to the east at the Pilot Mountain Range. Beautiful Pilot Peak rises to 10,716 about seven miles southeast of this property - what pretty views across the open valley to this mountain range!
This 40 acres of land for sale is in northeastern Nevada near the Idaho/Utah/Nevada state lines. It's located about 11 miles south of the small town of Montello which has a population of about 480 people. The small town offers a gas/mini grocery store, post office and restaurant. Wendover is a larger town to the southeast about 40 minutes on Interstate 80 and people in this valley commute there for work as well and groceries. The big town of Elko is about 1.5 - 2 hours to the west where you will find a hospital and major shopping. Salt Lake City is about two hours to the east and Reno sits on the other side of the state to the west. The land for sale sits near the foothills of the Toano Mountain Range to the west. There is a narrow valley to the east and across the other side of the valley is the Pilot Mountain Range. The giant in this range is Pilot Peak at 10,716 feet which sits only about seven miles to the southeast and this is a beautiful place to watch the snow accumulate and melt on this big peak and you can even see the trees on her! There is so much detail in both of the mountain ranges!!! Fabulous views!!! I have spent a few days up exploring the west side of the Toano Mountains and this is a great place for someone who likes to go explore off road! And I have seen hunters coming out of both mountain ranges! We viewed this area in June 2004 only 40 acres southwest (1/4 of a mile) of this property as seen in the parcel map link above. So you can actually see this property in the photos as well and I have tried to point it out in some of the photos below. It was a beautiful time of year to visit Pilot Valley and it was a beautiful green! This is a treat to be able to find a 40 acre parcel in this part of the valley at a wholesale price! The area has a gentle slope from the west to the east down to the bottom of the valley floor. There is short grass and native plants scattered about. I believe the fence you see in the photos runs along the road to the south of the section line so we came in on the north side of the fence. This land was once part of the large Gamble Ranch which sits to the north of the town of Montello. It is open range land. It sits about four miles west of Pilot Road which is the main graveled road that leads from Interstate 80 up through this part of the valley making its way past Pilot Peak and several pretty farms. The small town of Montello sits to the northwest 11 miles along the paved highway. This is a very rural area and well off the beaten path for those looking for a peaceful spot! It is a gorgeous valley with a few people scattered up and down it and with the town of Montello being the hub for the valley. I don't ever recall NOT seeing an antelope when I visited this valley and twice now I have seen a herd of wild horses roaming out here - absolutely stunning when you see them for your first time! The first time I saw them was actually not too far from this property - did I mention I have the worlds best job! : ) We took a decent gravel/dirt road off of Pilot Road for about 3.5 miles out to the area and it ran west to east along the southern section line. A section equals one square mile. This is the road you see in the photos. This property sits 1/4 of a mile north of that road and it looks like that road is in as well. I played with google earth a bit and it looks like there is a road leading along the eastern section line which runs along the east side of this property. You will need to view the property to know what type of condition that road is in for the 1/4 of a mile but up to that point I thought it was a decent road. You can see the road that runs along the section line west to east running in a straight line all of the way down into the Pilot Valley to the Pilot Mountains in some of the photos. The aerial photos show some sort of structure about 1/2 of a mile to the north but I couldn't spot anything in the photos. This property adjoins 640 acres (one square mile) of BLM land on it's eastern side as seen in the parcel map and BLM map! For information on BLM land visit www.blm.gov. These next two photos are looking northeast across the valley to the Pilot Mountain Range - I think these photos actually show the property the best as it sits only 40 acres away to the northeast of where I took the photos.
